Nominations for the CIRTL 2023 Committee Elections are now open! The CIRTL Network is expanding its Leadership Team to include a graduate student or postdoctoral researcher from a CIRTL Member Institution to represent people who participate in CIRTL learning communities. The CIRTL Leadership Team is the primary decision-making body of the CIRTL Network and has eight members, the CIRTL Director, Associate Director, four elected members from among our Institutional Leaders and Co-Leaders, and an elected graduate student/postdoc and at-large members. Terms are for two years, running August-July. The CIRTL Leadership Team is chaired by the CIRTL Director and generally meets weekly throughout the year.

Graduate students and Postdocs who have attained the CIRTL Practitioner level are eligible to run for election for a Leadership Team position. For more information email info@cirtl.net.

Who is on the Leadership Team?
The CIRTL Leadership Team has eight members, the CIRTL Director, Associate Director, four elected members from among our Institutional Leaders and Co-Leaders, and an elected graduate student/postdoc member and at-large member.

How do I know if I am a CIRTL Practitioner?
All candidates for this position must have their CIRTL Practitioner status verified by their local leaders as part of the nomination process, as qualifications for Practitioner status vary from institution to institution.

What happens after the nomination period?
All candidates will be asked to provide a statement describing their qualifications, readiness, and interest in serving. These statements will be included in an electronic ballot and election materials shared with members of the CIRTL community.

Who votes in the election?
Each CIRTL institution has two votes, the Institutional Leader and Administrative Co-Leader may each cast a vote for this Leadership Team position. CIRTL encourages leaders to take the time to discuss their institutional votes with their local teams and to carefully consider each candidate statement.

When will I know if I have been elected?
The CIRTL Committee Elections webpage provides a timeline for nominations and voting. All candidates will be notified of the election outcome within a few days of the close of voting.

What is the term of the position?
People on the Leadership Team serve two-year terms. No limit is prescribed on the number of terms, but a goal is that leadership will change regularly in order to enhance diversity and breadth of experience.

What if I graduate before my term is up?
If you graduate during the middle of your term, we would be happy to see you continue in the position until your slated two years are finished. If that is not possible, then the Leadership Team may choose to fill your vacant spot, either by appointment or election, taking into account the length of the remaining term.

How will this position help my professional development?
This experience provides an opportunity to examine and contribute to the direction of a multinational educational organization and connect with faculty, staff, and administrators at institutions across the United States and Canada. We encourage you to list the experience on your CV or resume.

Is there compensation for this position?
The graduate student or postdoctoral scholar elected to the Leadership Team will receive a payment of $750.00 following each 6-month period of service. CIRTL will also cover travel expenses to in-person CIRTL meetings, within the rules of the University of Wisconsin travel system.
