The Director of Instructional Design and Media Production will advance the UCLA Teaching & Learning Center (TLC) mission to elevate and celebrate inclusive excellence in teaching by engaging our community of educators in equity-minded and research-based teaching practices, instructional innovation, and pedagogical research.

Reporting to the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning, the Director of Instructional Design and Media Production leads the campus strategy on teaching with technology and instructional innovation across multiple modalities of instruction (e.g., on campus, online, hybrid). The Director will develop partnerships with instructors and departments across campus to advance creative, accessible, and interactive course design that transforms curricula into engaging and equity-minded educational journeys for diverse learners. Responsibilities include establishing pathways for experimentation in digital learning spaces by offering consultation services and delivering professional learning opportunities that support instructors in making data-driven, research-informed, and iterative instructional improvements to their courses and effectively integrating rapidly evolving educational technology into their teaching. The Director will play a key role in documenting trends in multimedia-enhanced eLearning experiences, promoting adoption of new multimedia tools and applications in conjunction with learning design expertise, and disseminating research, policy, and best practices in high-quality online and hybrid education. Through these efforts, the Director will provide leadership in sustaining the quality and ensuring the evolution of UCLA’s online courses and degree programs.

The Director is a core member of the TLC’s leadership team and oversees a staff of full-time professionals, including instructional designers and media production specialists, who support student success by enabling the streamlined production of courses, eLearning modules, and learning objects that meet professional, university, and UC systemwide standards of quality assurance for all modalities of instruction. The team will provide capacity for UCLA to participate in complex eLearning projects in collaboration with institutions across the UC system, other universities, and relevant professional organizations.

The Director oversees program administration and assessment for the unit; teaches courses and facilitates implementation of large-scale instructional design and digital media projects; represents the TLC on UCLA, UC, and national committees and projects; and initiates programmatic growth and scholarship in areas of importance to the TLC’s mission and UCLA’s strategic priorities.
