The Biology Department at Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with expertise in molecular biology beginning in August of the 2024-25 academic year.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching, scholarship, and service in a liberal arts environment. The candidate is expected to be trained broadly in molecular biology with a commitment to incorporate future advancements of the field into their teaching and scholarship. The teaching load is typically six courses per academic year (which faculty may fulfill through a combination of teaching and advising; the majority of courses are four credits). The successful candidate will teach in the introductory biology sequence (BIOL130 Molecules to Cells), upper division course(s) in the candidate’s area of interest that expand departmental opportunities for undergraduates in genetics/genomics, or other cell/molecular biology discipline, and a senior capstone course that is required by all biology majors. There may also be opportunities to teach an interdisciplinary course in the first-year liberal arts sequence or a course during our experiential January term. In addition to a commitment to teaching undergraduate students, candidates are expected to maintain an active scholarly program that includes undergraduate students.
The candidate will join a diverse and active, ten-member department. Each faculty colleague has interdisciplinary interests beyond biology that complement the biology curriculum such as Biochemistry, Environmental Studies, Neuroscience, Kinesiology, Education and more.
