Two CIRTL colleagues recently published a study on mentoring relationships between STEM faculty and postdoctoral scholars in a co-teaching program. The University of Arizona’s CIRTL Postdoc Pathways Program created a postdoctoral teaching certificate that includes pedagogical training and a short-term, intensive co-teaching partnership with a faculty mentor.
These facilitators used pre- and post-survey data to examine how the co-teaching teams collaborated and how teaching mentors can enhance a postdoc’s emerging identity as future faculty. They then developed a set of recommendations for building strong teaching mentorship relationships.
The results showcase learning in a variety of areas for both postdocs and faculty as a result of co-teaching.
