Lecturer, 3D Digital Design

The School of Design in the College of Art and Design at the Rochester Institute of Technology invites applicants to apply for a Lecturer position to teach in the 3D Digital Design program. The School of Design offers a BFA in 3D Digital Design. The program enrolls approximately 140 students. A combination of full-time and adjunct faculty contributes a range of professional interests and expertise in a studio setting. Students work with 3D graphics software to develop game levels, virtual worlds, digital characters, visualizations, simulations, motion graphics, projections, and more. Summary:

The 3D Digital Design program is seeking applicants to teach design courses using industry standard content creation software such as Maya, Blender and Adobe Creative Suite, as well as game engines such as Unreal and/or Unity. Expertise in other graphics software is important as well. The ability to teach a variety of techniques applicable to a 3D project including: research, ideation, modeling, visual scripting, materials, lighting, rendering, and compositing is important. As our field is rapidly changing and adapting, a commitment to continued professional development is key. By utilizing experimentation, critical thinking, creativity, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a range of problem-solving principles, students learn to solve complex visual problems within the constraints of time, space, budget, and technology. We are interested in candidates who bring a unique interest or experience in applying artificial intelligence tools and methods to design workflows as well as the delivery of content in immersive and augmented environments. In addition to teaching, responsibilities include advising students, assisting in curriculum development, and providing service to the program and school.

Responsibilities Include:

– Teaching 7-8 courses per year ranging from lower-division foundations to upper-division levels

– Working with the School of Design faculty on program and curricular development

– Maintaining a high level of expertise in 3D graphics areas

– Advising students for capstone/thesis projects and providing professional mentorship

– Rendering service to the school, college, university, and community

– Career advising and mentoring students

Assistant Professor, Industrial Design

The School of Design in the College of Art and Design at the Rochester Institute of Technology invites applicants to apply for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to teach in the Industrial Design program. The Industrial Design program focuses on developing strong conceptual and formal design skills by engaging students in the theory, process, and practice of design throughout the undergraduate and graduate curriculums. The Industrial Design program is consistently ranked amongst the top programs in the nation for undergraduate and graduate study.

Expertise in other graphics software is important as well. The ability to teach a variety of techniques applicable to 3D projects including: research, ideation, modeling, materials and lighting is important. In addition to teaching, this position will also focus on creating scholarly and creative work that leads to peer-reviewed dissemination such as conference presentations, academic/professional publications, grants, industry collaborations, etc. Of particular interest is a candidate with expertise in digital character design and organic modeling and sculpting methods. As our field is rapidly changing and adapting, a commitment to continued professional development is key. By utilizing experimentation, critical thinking, creativity, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a range of problem-solving principles, students learn to solve complex visual problems within the constraints of time, space, budget, and technology. We are interested in candidates who bring a unique interest or experience in applying artificial intelligence tools and methods to design workflows as well as the delivery of content in immersive and augmented environments. In addition to teaching, other responsibilities include advising students, assisting in curriculum development, pursuing research/scholarship, and providing service to the program and school. The candidate will teach primarily in the BFA program but may also have an opportunity to teach in an MFA program and sit on MFA thesis committees.

Assistant Professor, Graphic Design

The School of Design focuses on developing strong conceptual and formal visual communication skills through a pragmatic and applied pedagogy. Expectations include teaching 3 courses per semester, with a reduced load offered during the tenure-track period.; participating in innovative teaching and curriculum development; engaging in scholarly research activities of significance to the field; rendering service to the school, college, and university; career advising and mentoring undergraduate students; and participating in professional organizations important to graphic design.

Faculty Position: Graphic Design

We are seeking candidates who are well-rounded designers and educators who understand current and emerging trends in contemporary practice and graphic design education, such as Typography, Information Design, Experiential Design, Packaging Design, Systems Design, Branding, Interactive Design, UX/UI, and Motion Design with an understanding of traditional print-based design and digital technology. We are particularly interested in candidates who bring unique interest or experience in Artificial Intelligence tools as related to their field. Candidates should be qualified to teach throughout the curriculum and on all levels. Ideal candidates will possess the ability to provide leadership and vision in integrating emerging media applications into the Graphic Design curriculum. Preparing students for professional practice is a central focus of our program.

Assistant Professor, Motion Design

The School of Design in the College of Art and Design at the Rochester Institute of Technology invites individuals to apply for a tenure-track teaching position with a focus on motion design in the School of Design. We are seeking candidates with expertise in motion design who are well-rounded visual designers. We are particularly interested in candidates who bring unique interest or experience in Generative AI tools as related to their field. Ideal candidates will be able to teach animation principles and design concepts. They will teach students storytelling as it applies to motion, along with beginning to high-level skills and industry practices. This candidate will teach intro classes along with more advanced techniques. Teaching appropriate software such as Adobe After Effects and Cinema 4D is a must. This candidate will also possess the ability to provide leadership and vision in integrating motion design into the Graphic Design (BFA), New Media Design (BFA), and Visual Communication Design (MFA) curriculums. Candidates should be qualified to teach throughout the curriculum. Expectations include teaching 3 undergraduate and/or graduate studio and lecture courses per semester, with a reduced load offered during the tenure-track period.; teaching 2-3 courses each semester; participating in innovative teaching and curriculum development; rendering service to the school, college, university, and community; career advising and mentoring students; and participating in professional organizations important to the field of design.
