The Director for Educational Development Programs will advance the UCLA Teaching & Learning Center (TLC) mission to elevate and celebrate inclusive excellence in teaching by engaging our community of educators in equity-minded and research-based teaching practices, instructional innovation, and pedagogical research.
Reporting to the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning, the Director for Educational Development Programs leads the design and implementation of professional learning opportunities for UCLA instructors that advance student-centered, inclusive, accessible, and effective teaching strategies in support of student success from the undergraduate to graduate and professional levels. Responsibilities include developing and deploying digital resources, consultation services, and educational development programs that are grounded in learning theory and empirical research and advocate for adoption of teaching methods effective in supporting the academic and socioemotional success of diverse learners. In addition, responsibilities entail collaborating with campus partners to launch new initiatives that promote reflective instructional practices, advance purposeful instructional innovation across multiple modalities of instruction (e.g., on campus, online, hybrid), support adoption of evidence-based pedagogical practices with the enabling digital tools and classroom technology, and celebrate and reward inclusive excellence in teaching.
The Director is a core member of the TLC’s leadership team and oversees a team of full-time professionals and several part-time staff and students. The Director oversees a portfolio of existing educational development programs as well as several campuswide teaching events and quarterly teaching symposia. The Director also leads the design and evolution of programming in alignment with emerging initiatives and strategic priorities to elevate and transform teaching and learning. The Director oversees program operations and assessment for the unit; serves as a resource for and driver of cross-disciplinary, evidence-based pedagogical support for instructors of record including Senate faculty, Academic Administrators, Lecturers, and Graduate Student Instructors; implements pedagogy workshops and events in coordination with teaching support units across the campus; represents the TLC on UCLA, UC, and national committees and projects; and initiates programmatic growth and scholarship in areas central to the TLC’s mission and goals as well as UCLA’s strategic priorities.
