Assistant Professor – Department of Sociology and Anthropology

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology in the College of Liberal Arts at Rochester Institute of Technology invites applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor beginning in August 2025. Prospective candidates are expected to have earned a Ph.D. in either Sociology, Anthropology, or a related field (in hand by August 1, 2025).

Our department has strengths in the areas of health, social inequalities, race & ethnicity, and global migration. We seek candidates with expertise in either environment/climate change or disability/design, and who can thereby enhance our existing strengths. We welcome all methodologies, but particularly encourage those employing critical, community based or mixed methods approaches to apply.

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong potential for research and scholarship and a commitment to student success. Candidates should consider opportunities for collaborations with other RIT academic programs or community organizations. Candidates should demonstrate a dedication to excellence in teaching and mentoring liberal arts at the undergraduate level at a technology-oriented institution. Applicants must be able to teach introductory and upper division courses in sociology or anthropology.

Assistant Professor – Medical Illustration

The School of Art within the College of Art and Design at RIT welcomes applications for a tenure-track position in Medical Illustration. The appointment begins fall 2025. The ideal candidate will teach all levels of undergraduate and graduate Medical Illustration curricula and should demonstrate outstanding skills, including strong draftsmanship, the ability to visualize and communicate medical and allied health concepts, the ability to produce animated content, and contribute to the program through critiques, portfolio reviews, and curricular design.

The successful candidate would be expected to:

– Teach courses in Medical Illustration to undergraduate, advanced undergraduate, and graduate students (with a typical 2/3 teaching load prior to tenure and a 3/3 load following tenure)

– Develop courses and advance curriculum related to the candidate’s area(s) of specialty and contemporary technological advances and directions of the field

– Pursue a scholarly research agenda resulting in peer-reviewed projects and publications

– Engage in service activities in support of the School of Art, College of Art and Design, and RIT

– Participate actively in the life of the university and the surrounding community.
