Exploring Careers Beyond Academia with CIRTL Alumni
In this online panel, we’ll hear from CIRTL alumni who have built careers outside academia in scientific research, government consulting, and technical research and development. Our panelists work as a principal scientist at a food-technology company, a senior social scientist supporting a federal agency, and a principal member of technical staff at a national laboratory. They will discuss what their positions are like, how their doctoral training and CIRTL experiences prepared them for their roles, what it was like to transition beyond academia, and what professional growth can look like in these career paths.
Speakers
- Megan Biango-Daniels, Principal Scientist, Mori
- Lauren Griffin, Senior Social Scientist, VPD Government Solutions
- Yuliya Preger, Principal Member of Technical Staff, Sandia National Laboratories

About CIRTL Programming
CIRTL Network programming is designed to develop future faculty committed to implementing and advancing evidence-based teaching practices to create undergraduate educational experiences that are accessible to all learners. Participants can explore our programming in any order and to whatever extent supports their teaching development needs and interests. To help participants understand what they can expect across our programming, all CIRTL programming aligns with four broad learning goals. Within those goals, individual programs provide different opportunities for participants to develop and apply evidence-based teaching practices.
This event supports the following CIRTL learning goal:
- Goal 4: Prepare for an impactful career. See more Goal 4 programming.
