Reporting to the Associate Director of Curriculum in the Office for Online Learning (HMX), the AI-Medicine Curriculum Lead is responsible for providing content and pedagogical expertise in the development of the HMX AI-Medicine Topics (a Topic is a short course) series and for contributing to overall curriculum team development and research goals. The AI-Medicine Curriculum Lead is responsible for overseeing the curricular design/development, evaluation, and maintenance/improvement of the HMX AI-Medicine series. This includes responsibility for instructional design, creation of course materials in conjunction with course faculty, and management of course faculty. The AI-Medicine Curriculum Lead is also expected to contribute to the overall efforts of the HMX Curriculum team by mentoring future new curriculum team members, providing review and feedback of peers’ work, providing oversight to any HMX interns helping with the AI-Medicine series, and contributing to the development of new teaching modalities and educational tools, including the possibility of live (remote) teaching sessions.

The HMX-AI Medicine Topics comprise a series that cover a high-level explanation of different foundational and evolving AI techniques, with their medical applications, as well as a corresponding series on crucial medical concepts that those working with biomedical data (including for AI applications) need to understand. The AI-Medicine Curriculum Lead is not expected to be an AI expert, but should have an intense interest in and aptitude for learning about medical applications of AI (potentially demonstrated through past work or personal projects), as well as a biomedically-oriented background.

The AI-Medicine Curriculum Lead will also hold a teaching associate appointment at Harvard Medical School with the possibility of promotion to a lecturer appointment in the future. While the primary responsibilities are focused on online education, HMX recognizes the value of in person teaching experiences and is supportive of curriculum leads maintaining a presence in such additional activities as desired.

The AI-Medicine Curriculum Lead will work remotely but is expected to be available and present for production purposes as needed at Harvard Medical School in Boston. This is a full-time position designed for early career scientist/technologist/teachers who are interested in an academic pathway involving curriculum development and teaching.
