Responsible for the coordination and assessment of professional development programs facilitated by the Faculty Development Center (FDC) and the Office of Writing Programs (OWP) team. These programs include ongoing workshop programs, coordinating teaching and pedagogical support teams, and support for initiatives for faculty and academic staff professional growth in support of Furman’s strategic vision. In addition, this professional ensures the daily operations of both offices in their collaborations with academic and external partners.
The Faculty Development Center and Office of Writing Programs build, facilitate, and enhance faculty and academic staff professional learning, development, and advancement across campus and within Furman’s larger community (regionally, nationally, and internationally). The Faculty Development Programs Coordinator supports the FDC, the Office of Writing Programs, and other faculty programs in support of this expanding mission and as a representative of life-long learning. In each of the past 5 years, program participation in FDC and OWP has increased steadily; as of Spring 2023 our combined reach extends to more than 60% of faculty and academic staff. Our growth, the merging of our units under the FDC umbrella, and continued demand to expand how we support The Furman Advantage (TFA) requires the addition of a professional who has and continues to build adaptive skills that include specialized planning, communication, facilitation, managerial, administrative, analytical, and program support.
