The Austin College Department of Biology invites applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Biology to begin in August 2024. We seek a broadly trained molecular or cellular biologist. Candidates with a disciplinary focus in developmental biology, cancer biology, immunology, neurobiology, or a related field are especially attractive.
Teaching responsibilities include introductory cell and molecular biology, upper-level cell and molecular biology courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, and occasional non-majors science courses. The standard 9-month teaching load is 12 contact hours per semester (2 courses that include lecture and accompanying lab) plus a January Term course every other year. Candidates should consider how they will engage undergraduates in research, either through coursework, or in directed or independent projects during the summer or academic year. Startup funds are available and additional funding is available for mentoring students in summer research. In addition, faculty are expected to participate in campus service, faculty governance, and to mentor students as academic advisors. The successful candidate will have strong commitments to innovative teaching in a liberal arts environment and to fostering and encouraging diversity in their classroom through their pedagogy.
Individuals from historically underrepresented groups and those who share our commitment to inclusion and diversity are strongly encouraged to apply. Austin College faculty pride themselves in providing a welcoming working community.
